The Thumb Piano is a musical instrument that is found and played in many African Countries and appears in countless variations across the continent. The instrument is played by holding in both hands and plucking the metal keys with the fingers and thumbs.

This version of the thumb piano features a gourd soundbox which serves to amplify the sound produced from the 5 metal keys.

A good instrument for novices and seasoned musicians alike as the thumb piano dosen't require any previous musical experience to produce a pleasing sound and melody and is great for improvised music.

As well as being used as a lead instrument in African music and traditional storytelling African people can often be found playing the instrument while walking.
