The Thumb Piano is a musical instrument found and played in many African countries and appears in countless variations across the continent.
The instrument is held in both hands and played by plucking the metal keys with the fingers and thumbs.
This version of the thumb piano features a gourd soundbox that amplifies the metal keys' sound.
The thumb piano a good for novices and seasoned musicians and doesn't require any previous musical experience to produce a pleasing sound and melody, an excellent instrument for improvised music.
As well as being used as a lead instrument in African music and traditional storytelling African people can often be found playing the thumb piano while walking.
